Environmental Planners - All Offices

A dynamic California Environmental Consulting firm seeks an Environmental Planner for any of our 6 CA offices. Experience working with CEQA and NEPA required. Experience writing CEQA analysis required. Excellent written, oral communication skills and computer literacy are a requisite. Team orientation. BA or higher with course work in a related field required. Salary compensation commensurate with experience. Full benefit package including medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) plan. Summary: The Environmental Planner formulates, plans, coordinates and participates in environmental studies under general supervision.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • All duties and responsibilities expected at the Associate Environmental Planner level. The Environmental Planner shall demonstrate a higher skill and experience level in environmental planning than an Assistant Environmental Planner.
  • Provides assistance to Project Managers.
  • Participates and provides leadership and guidance to lower level Planners in the preparation of environmental documents.
  • Maintains liaison with personnel from agencies and the project team to discuss and review problems and issues of mutual concern.
  • Leads and guides other Planners in the division by setting priorities, reviewing progress of projects, and providing direction and technical assistance as needed.
  • Analyzes and is informative of local, state and national laws for impacts on natural resources and environmental quality.
  • Participates in hearings, conferences and seminars as assigned.
  • Attend pre-proposal meetings, and/or meet with agency or applicant to show our interest in their project and write all proposal sections including cost analysis.
  • Oversees and manages staff that assists with specific proposal graphics, presentation, research, and/or production of proposal.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Oversees and manages staff that assists with specific graphics, presentation, research, and/or production of environmental documents. Leads and guides other Planners in the division by setting priorities, reviewing progress of projects, and providing direction and technical assistance as needed.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Minimum four-year accredited degree, preferably in related filed* or equivalent professional or voluntary work experience
  • 4 years of professional work experience in a related field (discretionary)
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques involved in environmental planning and in the conduct of studies and site surveys
  • Good knowledge of local, state, and federal environmental regulations and land use principles and practices, including General Plan/Land Use Zoning practices
  • Ability to conceive, organize and conduct environmental studies
  • The capability to write any/all portions of environmental documents (i.e. Initial Studies, EIR sections, etc)
  • Ability to analyze, evaluate and interpret a broad range of environmental planning data
  • Ability to plan and supervise the work of subordinate staff
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, especially Microsoft Word
  • Familiar with graphics programs and have the ability to be cross-trained in graphics preparation
  • Good attitude and willingness to accept constructive criticism

Language Skills: Ability to read, interpret and write complex and routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before customers or employees of organization.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to deal with complex problems in a variety of situations.

The employee must frequently walk on uneven ground or in areas with no guardrails, up to 15 feet above the ground. The employee must frequently lift and /or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Additionally, the employee must be able to either sit or stand for long periods of time.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is sometimes very loud.
