Project Manager - Santa Clarita

Christopher A. Joseph & Associates (CAJA) is an environmental consulting firm specializing in the management and preparation of CEQA and NEPA environmental documents. CAJA is seeking a flexible, motivated and goal-orientated professional with a strong background in NEPA and CEQA technical analysis and project management. This person will also oversee and manage staff and projects in our Santa Clarita, CA office.

Requirements include strong analytical capabilities, thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques involved in environmental planning, excellent knowledge of local, state, and federal environmental regulations and land use principles and practices, including General Plan/Land Use Zoning practices, and the ability to conceive, organize and conduct environmental studies. In addition, experience must be demonstrated in the areas of strategy assistance, problem solving, and constraints analyses. Excellent written and oral communication skills and computer literacy are requisite and some familiarity with graphics programs (i.e. Adobe Illustrator and PhotoShop) is a plus.

Required knowledge and skills may be demonstrated by a minimum four-year accredited degree or higher with course work in urban studies, urban planning, geography, or other fields as appropriate to the applicant's area of focus and at least ten or more years experience with CEQA and NEPA compliance and environmental document review, preparation, and management. In addition, skills and capabilities must be demonstrated in the areas of mentoring/training of entry- and junior-level planning and environmental staff.

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

Environmental Consulting

  • Manage/prepare legally-defensible EIRs, EISs, MNDs, and EAs for both public and private sectors in accordance with city, county, state, and federal environmental laws

Administration

  • Manage operations of the Oakland office;
  • Interview and train environmental planning and administrative staff; and
  • Create/maintain workload and budget projections to help identify staffing needs.

Business Development

  • Pursue RFPs via networking, agency websites and telephone communications;
  • Prepare competitive proposals for new contracts with current and potential clients; requires knowledge of environmental laws, various technical fields, local politics, and client needs;
  • Identify/assemble appropriate sub-consultants to team on proposals; and
  • Maintain good client relations to ensure repeat contracts.
