Client: Merced Community College District
Lead Agency: Merced Community College District
Date Completed: October 2004

The Los Banos College Campus Master Plan covers approximately 120 acres and is located just beyond the western boundary of the City of Los Banos in unincorporated Merced County. The proposed project is for a new campus that would provide expanded curriculum and student service offerings. The Los Banos College Campus Master Plan conceptual site plan calls for the following development as a part of Phase I: classrooms, library, academic technology, and vocational education. Campus buildout under the Master Plan would be completed by 2040 and would cluster buildings at the eastern half of the site and provide play fields and an outdoor teaching area at the northern half. Due to its undeveloped state, the project site will require major infrastructure improvements for implementation of the proposed project.

The Merced College Campus Master Plan consists of a 269-acre, rectangular shaped project site which is currently developed with the Merced Community College Campus located at the northern edge of the City of Merced's urbanized area. The student population is expected to grow from 5,600 full-time equivalent students in the year 2000 to 11,300 students in the year 2015. The Merced College Campus Master Plan describes the campus facility needs at build out to serve the increasing enrollment and changing demographics in the region. The specific building projects that are to be undertaken within the five-year planning horizon include:

  • Architectural Barriers Removal/Basic Access: corrects deficiencies related to access for the physically disabled or other impaired students.
  • Science Building Remodel: remodeling the existing science building and adding a small amount of new space.
  • Learning Resources Center: construction of a new 38,000-square foot library including media services space.
  • Fire and Safety Improvement/Internal Road System: completion of the interior road system, lighting, and walkways.
  • Lesher Building Remodel: remodeling the current library building to hold Admissions, Records, Registration, Counseling, Financial Aid, EOP & S, DSPS and other student services.
  • Technology Training Building
  • Vocational Building Remodel
  • Agricultural Science and Technology Building
  • Student Union Remodel
  • Allied Health Center Building
